The Oakland Motor Company was founded on August 28, 1907 by Edward M. Murphy in Pontiac, Michigan. In two years, General Motors purchases a half interest in Oakland Motor Car Co. and when Edward Murphy passed away the following summer, the company came under the General Motors full control. In 1932, the Oakland name was dropped from the vehicle line and Pontiac name was given to the division. Today, there are seven cars in the Pontiac lineup. These include the G6, G5, Grand Prix, GTO, Solstice, SV6, Torrent, and the Vibe.
