New Lincoln Cars

In 1901, Henry Leland developed a 10.25 horsepower engine that he offered to Oldsmobile. When Olds refused, Henry decided to manufacture his own line of cars – the Cadillac. In 1908, Henry sold the company to GM for $4.5 million. A few years into his retirement, Henry at age 76, in 1917, incorporated the Lincoln Motor Company, named after the President he liked most. His idea was to build airplane engines for WWI fighter planes. Once the war ended, Henry modified the engine plant to develop automobiles. On February 4, 1922 Henry Ford purchased the Lincoln Motor Company for $8 million, and made it the luxury brand of the Ford Motor Company. Today, there are six cars in the Lincoln lineup. These include the Aviator, the LS, the Mark LT, the Navigator, and the Zephyr.
