New Jaguar Cars

The Swallow Sidecar Company was founded by Bill Lyons and William Walmsley in 1922 to produce sidecars for motorbikes. Four years later, they ventured into the automotive arena by producing an inexpensive two-seater for the Austin Seven. After a decade of building bodies for other companies, in 1931, they entered the automotive field with cars bearing their own name. In 1933, the name was changed to Jaguar to reflect the sleek, long styling Swallow Coachwork was famous for. After World War II, Bill Lyons began developing a new sports car – the XK120. Launched in 1948, the car was the fastest of its day, posting a top speed of 120 mph. In 1954, Jaguar incorporated the company in New York and began exporting to USA. During the 60s, Jaguar unveiled some very exciting models, including the E-type. In 1989, the company was purchased by Ford. Today, there are four cars in the Jaguar lineup including the retro looking S type, the X type, the XK, and the XJ.
