New Ford Cars

In 1901, an unemployed Henry Ford moved his wife and son back to his father’s home. A few months later, driving his own home built car, he defeated Alexander Winton in an automobile race. The win attracted 11 investors to sing Ford Motor Company’s articles of incorporation. The introduction of the Model T in October 1908 irrevocably altered American society. As more Americans became car owners, urban patterns started to change. The ability to travel further gave rise to the concept of suburbs, the creation of a national highway system and the freedom of travel anywhere at anytime. Henry Ford also shared profits with his employees and shortened workday from nine to eight hours. Despite his success, Henry longed for a return to a more agrarian life. Prior to his passing away, on April 7, 1947, he sponsored restoration of an idyllic rural community called Greenfield Village.
